Learning from the positive and negative aspects of the teachers who have shaped and molded me as a pre-service teacher is very important to me, and when I think back on the teachers that were most affective in my development as a student there is one thing in common; that is that each of them allowed for the multiple intelligences to be cultivated in their lessons. I have learned a valuable tool to create lesson plans which allow for multiple instructional strategies to be developed while in a special education class at SUNY Oswego. This tool is called a Universal Design for Learning or UDL. Once you have determined a concept to teach you begin with a web which defines the concept and key terms in the center of your web, and there must be at least eight different categories webbing off of this original concept which are in agreement with the eight levels of multiple intelligence as defined by Howard Gardner. Example of UDL Project:

For this particular unit of study I focused on World Geography and Culture. Attached is the link to my UDL plan, and in it you will find lesson plans that are detailed in a way to show how students have the ability to learn through multiple instructional strategies as well as show what they have learned through multiple means of expression.
